Windows Central reported today that Microsoft is working on a major UI update for the Edge browser, codenamed “Olympia”.
According to feedback from user @Leopeva64, Olympia was already in development as early as 2024 (then called Jupiter), with its design centered around Copilot, and early test versions have already appeared on the Windows 11 platform in the Edge Canary version.

According to the introduction, Olympia will feature a new UI with a focus on simplicity and practicality, including a simplified address bar and window frame, vertical tab layout and a functional menu on the right, among other notable changes, with a visual style that matches Windows 11.

As shown in the picture, the new Edge address bar is reduced and centered at the top, with Copilot directly embedded in it, and the search, chat, and voice input functions are strengthened in the search box, with the microphone icon always resident for immediate use.

In addition, the Edge interface is more minimalist overall, with the tabs moved to a vertical list controlled by a drop-down button in the top left corner, and there is an alternative layout that places the horizontal tabs below the address bar. The window on the right side retains the bookmark button and access to the browsing history, downloads, settings, and other functions.

But clearly, Olympia is not yet fully functional, with some areas still offline. It’s possible that Olympia is an exclusive interface built for Edge’s Copilot mode, to complement future expansions of AI assistant capabilities; it could also be a more significant UI refractor for Edge, distinct from other browsers.
